CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Today, Scott J. Brook is announcing his candidacy for Mayor of Coral Springs in the special election set for March 12, 2019. Brook’s vision is ‘Unity in the Community’ and he hopes to innovatively lead initiatives that unify Coral Springs.

As a proud community member of Coral Springs since 1997, Brook’s values are rooted in his love of family. He is a proud father and grandfather to five children and three grandchildren. He advocates for families and parents as a partner in the Coral Springs law firm Brodzki, Jacobs, & Brook, and he leads community conversations that encourage Coral Springs residents, business owners, and visitors to work together like family.

Brook served on the City Commission of Coral Springs beginning in 2002 and then served as Mayor of Coral Springs from March 2006 to November 2010. As a leader in the City, Coral Springs became the first city in the USA to receive the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2007. The award was established in 1987 by U.S. Congress to raise awareness of quality management, it is the nation’s highest presidential honor for performance excellence, and it serves to recognize U.S. companies that have successfully implemented quality management systems.

During his terms of service, Brook consistently demonstrated his commitment to bridging the gap between citizens of Coral Springs and local government, further promoting transparency and a united community. Brook’s notable achievements include: the establishment of office hours for citizens to meet with their leaders and elected officials; the development of the Customer-Involved Government Committee to promote participation in community affairs; the creation of a Facebook page for the City to interact with and educate citizens (one of the first cities to do so in Florida); the development of Project Leadership as a youth initiative that has since cultivated leadership, public speaking, finance, and relationship-building skills to over 800 teenagers with the assistance of adult volunteers; the start of the City’s Government Academy and Visioning Summit; the creation of the Innovation Table to open dialogue among citizens that identifies community concerns and develops solutions; his stand against lifetime health insurance benefits for retired Commissioners or Mayors who served at least five years in office; and the swift organization of a City-wide forum after the tragic fatality of one teen revealed deeper concerns for the well-being of the community and its youth.
